Since 1994, I have been a lecturer of Pharmacology and Therapeutics for medical students at the Pharmacology Department of Eduardo Mondlane University in Mozambique, where I achieved the position of Associate Professor in 2015. In 2002 I was also invited to lecture Bioethics in Public Health for master’s degree students at Public Health Department of Eduardo Mondlane University. In addition, I have been working as a research investigator at the Manhiça Health Research Centre since 2001. I have been involved in several studies, including phase IV clinical trials, particularly in malaria, pre-eclampsia, and eclampsia, as well as the safe use of drugs/vaccines in pregnancy. Throughout my professional career, I have had various assignments as a national and international expert in pharmacovigilance, supporting the establishment of Pharmacovigilance Systems in Mozambique and other African Countries. Currently, I am the in-country PI of the FIC-funded UEM Collaborative Research Ethics Education Program (R25-FoCEP) and of the Efficacy and Safety of a newly registered Artemisinin-Based Combination (Pyronaridine-Artesunate -PYRAMAX®) for the treatment of uncomplicated malaria in African pregnant women (EDCTP RIA2017MC-2025), the Training Coordinator for the FIC funded Partnership for Research in Implementation Science (D43-PRISM), and the Scientific Coordinator for the recently approved EDCTP funded project on Ethics and Regulatory Capacity Building Partnership for Clinical Trials in Portuguese-speaking African Countries. I currently serve as the President of the National Committee for Bioethics in Health (Comité Nacional de Bioética para Saúde, CNBS).
